Independent pubs, cafés and restaurants across Teesside could benefit from a new £10 million Hospitality Grant Scheme launched today by the Labour Government.

The three-year fund will back projects helping entrepreneurs start new hospitality businesses, bring empty premises back into use and provide training to help people into work.

More than £3 million is also being earmarked for Pub is The Hub, which works with pubs in rural and deprived communities to diversify and provide extra local services – particularly relevant to village pubs across rural East Cleveland.

The new fund follows further support from the Labour Government for the hospitality sector, with pubs, clubs and live music venues also set to receive a 20% cut in their business rates bills from April, saving the typical pub around £1,000 next year.

Luke regularly visits and promotes independent businesses across the constituency through his Small Business Spotlight, and has worked with the Federation of Small Businesses to champion local firms and the jobs they create.

Minister for the Future of Work, Kate Dearden MP, said:

“Hospitality venues are where communities come together and where many people get their first experience of work. They create jobs and help our towns and neighbourhoods to thrive.

“This funding will back local businesses to grow, boost opportunities for people across the UK and support growth in every part of the country.”

Pub is The Hub Chief Executive John Longden OBE said:

“This funding will help give long-term certainty to publicans to create new services and activities in their pubs which will deliver a wider social value and create a foundation for well-being in their local areas.”

Guidance for businesses is available now, with applications being received from the end of September.
