£1k council tax refund secured for Nunthorpe couple

11 September 2026

A Nunthorpe couple are set to receive more than £1,100 back after Luke Myer MP helped successfully challenge the council tax banding of their home.

The constituents contacted Luke after discovering their property was being charged at Band F, while identical homes on the same development were in Band D. Luke’s team pursued the case with the Valuation Office Agency and pressed for the discrepancy to be investigated.

The challenge was successful, with the property rebanded from F to D and the change backdated to September 2025. The VOA found that the original valuation had been based on plans showing a larger property than the one actually built.

The correction means around £1,100 is due back, as well as substantially lower council tax bills going forward.
