A Hemlington man has received £2,825 in backdated Universal Credit after Luke Myer MP’s team stepped in to help resolve an error with his benefits.
The constituent, who was being supported by a Macmillan benefits adviser, had seen his Universal Credit suddenly fall by around £400 a month after moving from ESA, despite repeated attempts to get an explanation. Luke’s team raised the case directly with the DWP, which investigated and accepted that an error had been made.
The mistake was corrected, restoring the constituent’s transitional protection, and the DWP confirmed that £2,825 in underpaid benefits had been paid back. His Macmillan adviser subsequently confirmed that the money had been received.
