Backing Carbon Capture Jobs for Teesside

At Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, Luke Myer MP spoke with businesses and investors from across the carbon capture industry.

With Government backing the East Coast Cluster last year with £4 billion, Teesside is set to see 4,000 well-paid, skilled jobs created through this project. Already, welders in Hartlepool are fabricating pipes for the new infrastructure, with more opportunities in engineering, fabrication and advanced manufacturing to come.

Industry leaders highlighted the importance of sustaining momentum, including expanding Track-1 projects, providing clarity on Track-2, enabling non-pipeline transport solutions, and ensuring a robust regulatory framework. They also stressed the need for alignment with European CO₂ networks and making the case for carbon capture against new political opposition.

Luke said:

“It was good to speak with businesses and investors in Liverpool who are excited by the potential of carbon capture on Teesside. The East Coast Cluster is already creating jobs for local welders and fabricators, and I want to see the project expand so more businesses can get onboard and access the supply chain. Teesside built the world once, and with the industries of the future we can lead the way again.”
