Family Hubs celebrate success as nearly 5,000 get support

September 2026

Family Hubs revamped by Luke Myer and Redcar & Cleveland’s Labour council have seen a fourfold rise in families attending popular baby and toddler groups.

The centres were transformed in 2023, when Luke was Cabinet Member for Children, bringing NHS, council and charity services together to make life easier for local families. Three years on, new figures show 4,860 people attended Family Hub sessions last year, with more than three-quarters of children aged 0 to 3 registered.

Luke returned to the Family Hubs in Loftus, Skelton and Guisborough this month to celebrate their success and thank staff. The centres now offer everything from breastfeeding and speech support to specialist sessions for children with additional needs. Last year, 211 parents and children attended Sensory Kidz sessions, while local tongue-tie clinics helped 373 babies, saving families lengthy journeys to Newcastle.

The Family Hubs continue to grow, with new funding from the Government for healthy babies programmes, and recruitment open for permanent jobs including Family Hub Assistant, Early Years Support Worker, and Best Start Inclusion Practitioner.

Luke Myer MP said:

“I’m incredibly proud of what our Family Hubs have become. They’re not just places to get advice and support. They’ve become real communities where parents can meet, children can thrive and families know there’s always someone there to help. A huge thank you to the brilliant staff making that happen.”

Cllr Bill Suthers, Cabinet Member for Children, said:

“It’s wonderful to see just how much our Family Hubs have grown and how many local families they are now supporting. That is down to the dedication of our fantastic staff and partners, who make families feel welcome and supported every single day.”
