GOOD TEESSIDE JOBS IN OFFSHORE WIND
Luke Myer MP welcomes announcement of £1 billion investment drive in offshore wind manufacturing
17th June 2025
The Government has confirmed a major £1 billion investment drive to boost offshore wind manufacturing, including £700 million secured from industry and The Crown Estate, and £300 million committed by Great British Energy.
Luke Myer MP welcomed the announcement, calling it a major vote of confidence in Teesside’s potential to lead on clean energy and industrial jobs. The investment is set to support new turbine supply chains, strengthen port infrastructure, and help create good-quality skilled jobs in areas like Teesside that have the capacity to drive forward the green economy.
This announcement builds on Labour’s plans to unlock energy independence and re-industrialise regions through strategic public investment. Great British Energy’s contribution alone marks a step change in how the UK can use public backing to crowd in private capital, creating a win-win for energy security and economic growth.
Luke Myer MP said,
“This is exactly the kind of long-term investment Teesside has been crying out for. By combining public ambition with industry commitment, we can bring clean power, engineering jobs, and real opportunity back to areas that need it most. Offshore wind should mean good jobs here on Teesside and with this £1 billion, we’re finally turning that potential into reality.”
