Guisborough town centre was packed with visitors yesterday (2 August 2026) as residents, businesses and community groups came together for a major Yorkshire Day celebration.
The event, organised by Chaloner Street Market and Guisborough Town Council, featured more than 40 stalls alongside family entertainment, exhibitions, rides, games and refreshments. Activities took place across the town, including at Sunnyfield House, Bakehouse Square, Guisborough Priory, the Parish Hall, Market Cross and St Nicholas’ Church.
Luke Myer MP attended with his wife Beth, visiting local traders and community organisations throughout the day. Among the groups he met were Guisborough Photo Group, Guisborough Flower Club, Guisborough Theatre Company, Koselig, The Kiosk, the Royal British Legion, and Guisborough Town FC, where he bought a club scarf.

Luke also judged the event’s ‘Battle of the Batters’ competition, awarding the prize for the best Yorkshire puddings to local mum-and-daughter duo Chloe and Julie Jamieson.
The Yorkshire Day event drew praise from residents, with many describing the turnout as Guisborough at its best and welcoming the chance to see the high street busy.
Luke Myer MP said:
“It was a brilliant day and fantastic to see so many people out enjoying Guisborough in the sunshine.
“Our town has some incredibly talented artists, makers, small businesses and community organisations, and Yorkshire Day was a great opportunity to celebrate everything they contribute.
“Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the day such a success.”
