Luke backs Easterside ASB fight

22 July 2026

More neighbourhood police are on Teesside’s streets as Luke Myer MP continues his campaign to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour in Easterside.

Luke has been working with residents, Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Council and community organisations to help address the issues affecting the area. Following a residents’ meeting organised by local community activist Aaron Longworth, he recently returned to Easterside Community Hub to discuss youth provision and early intervention with Middlesbrough Council’s West Neighbourhood Team.

The local work comes as new figures published today show neighbourhood policing has grown by 22% nationally in the past year under the Labour Government’s Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee. Cleveland Police alone has recruited 48 new neighbourhood police officers and PCSOs over the last 12 months, alongside £2.39 million of dedicated neighbourhood policing funding. Last week, the force was also awarded the highest possible grading under the new national policing performance system. Luke has welcomed the progress but says more still needs to be done. He has continued pressing ministers to reform the outdated police funding formula so Cleveland receives the resources it needs to put even more officers on the streets.

Luke Myer MP said:

“People in Easterside want exactly the same thing as families everywhere: safe streets, visible policing and opportunities for young people.

“It was encouraging to hear residents, police, council officers and community organisations all pulling in the same direction. The extra neighbourhood officers are already making a difference, but we need to keep building on that. I’ll keep fighting to get our area the fair funding it deserves so we can put even more officers back on the beat.”
