Luke Myer, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, joined members of the Rotary Club of Guisborough & Great Ayton on Friday evening (17 October) to celebrate the Club’s 60th anniversary at Gisborough Hall. He attended the event alongside his wife Beth, joining Rotarians, community leaders, and local charities from across the area.
Founded in 1965, the Rotary Club of Guisborough & Great Ayton has spent six decades serving communities across the area – from Guisborough and Great Ayton to Lingdale, Boosbeck, Margrove Park and Charltons. The Club’s members have raised tens of thousands of pounds for local and international causes, contributing to humanitarian projects while bringing people together in friendship and service.
The evening’s celebrations brought together guests from across the region, including Rotarians from neighbouring clubs and representatives from local charities supported by the Club. Luke spoke with members of the South Cleveland Heart Fund, which supports heart patients through its work with the cardiothoracic unit at James Cook University Hospital, and the Guisborough Bridge Association, a local charity providing food, friendship and community support for people of all ages.
The evening also featured performances from students at Prior Pursglove College, displays of banners exchanged with Rotary Clubs around the world, and a look back at the Club’s many contributions to local life.
Luke Myer MP said:
“It was a real privilege to join the Rotary Club of Guisborough & Great Ayton for their Diamond Anniversary. For sixty years, they’ve embodied the best of community spirit: people coming together to serve others, improve lives, and make this area stronger.
“From raising funds for local charities to supporting international causes, the Club’s members have made a remarkable difference. It’s wonderful to see that spirit of kindness, service and fellowship continuing today.”
The Rotary Club of Guisborough & Great Ayton meets twice a month at Gisborough Hall and always welcomes new members. Anyone interested in joining or learning more about their work can visit www.guisboroughrotary.org.uk or contact the Club directly at info@guisboroughrotary.org.uk.
