Today, 4 November 2026, Luke Myer MP met with Alison McGovern, Minister for Mental Health, and the Chief Executive of the NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board, Sam Allen CBE. The meeting was part of his campaign to improve mental health services across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.
The Labour Government has announced new community mental health centres for both Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland, alongside investment in emergency mental health facilities at Roseberry Park Hospital.
Since being elected, Luke has campaigned for better mental health services for veterans, securing a visit from the Veterans Minister to Guisborough and supporting the development of Morgan House in Boosbeck, which provides specialist support for former service personnel. He has also supported local organisations tackling loneliness, addiction and poor mental health, while taking up individual cases where residents have struggled to access NHS services.
The Government has increased funding for mental health support in local schools, introduced reforms to strengthen patients’ rights and launched a public inquiry into failings at the local mental health trust, TEWV.
Luke Myer MP said:
“Mental health is one of the biggest challenges we face in our region, which is why I’m a big supporter of organisations like Men’s Shed or Andy’s Man Club.
“I’m determined to make sure people across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland can get the mental health support they need, when they need it.
“We’ve made progress, from supporting our veterans to securing new Government investment in local services, but there’s much more to do. I’ll keep pushing to make sure our communities get the care they deserve.”
