Tees Valley Labour MPs, met with Industry Minister Sarah Jones MP to advocate for Teesside’s pivotal role in the Government’s forthcoming ten-year Industrial Strategy. The meeting focused on ensuring that Teesside, with its strong industrial heritage and future potential, is a cornerstone of the Government’s plans to transform key sectors of the economy, including advanced manufacturing and clean energy industries.
During the meeting, Luke Myer MP underscored the importance of investing in skills to support Teesside’s advanced manufacturing sector and leveraging the region’s strengths to capitalise on the transition to green industry. He also emphasised the need for high-quality, secure jobs to ensure the benefits of investment are felt by local communities.
Speaking after the meeting, Luke Myer MP said:
“Teesside has the skills, talent and ambition to be at the heart of Britain’s modern industrial revolution. Our advanced manufacturing sector is a vital part of the economy, but it can only thrive if we invest in the skills needed to support its future growth. The transition to green industry offers enormous potential for Teesside, with projects like carbon capture and offshore wind demonstrating how our region can lead the way in delivering clean energy and economic renewal.
“The Government’s focus on key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, and digital technologies is a perfect match for Teesside’s capabilities. Teesside, with its skilled workforce, established industries and green innovation projects, is well-positioned to be at the forefront of this ambitious agenda.
“I will keep pushing for the investment and support we need to ensure our region plays a central role in the Industrial Strategy, delivering thousands of high-quality jobs and a stronger, greener economy for our communities.”
