£1 Million Investment in Training Programmes to Equip 175 Young People for Teesside’s Green Energy Jobs

Luke Myer MP has backed the launch of three transformative training schemes aimed at preparing 175 local young people for careers in Teesside’s rapidly expanding clean energy sector. The programmes, supported by the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) and Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power), form part of a wider drive to position Teesside at the heart of the UK’s green industrial revolution.

“This is another important step in Teesside’s rise as a global leader in green industries. These training programmes are a vital investment in our future workforce, ensuring young people have the skills and opportunities to succeed in the fast-growing clean energy sector. With the recent landmark investments like the £4 billion East Coast Cluster project and the £2 billion Teesside hydrogen initiative, this is an exciting time for our region, and these schemes will ensure that local people are front and centre in this transformation.”

This £1 million investment will help close the skills gap in Teesside’s clean energy sector, with local educational institutions partnering with major industry players like Balfour Beatty and Technip Energies to deliver tailored training in welding, pipefitting, electrical engineering, and civil works. Alongside this, the Tees Valley Net Zero Industry Scholarship will support 141 students in pursuing the skills needed for jobs across the clean energy industry, with a focus on sustainability and growth.
