Luke Myer MP Celebrates UK Parliament Week with Local Schools and Scouts

Luke Myer MP marked UK Parliament Week by visiting schools across the constituency to answer students’ questions and hear their incredible ideas for improving local communities. The day was packed with engaging discussions and inspiring conversations, showcasing the talents and enthusiasm of young people in the area.

Luke began the day at his old school, St. Peter’s Church of England Primary School in Brotton. It was a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he reflected on how the school has changed over the years. He met with the School Council, led by Head Boy Billy, Head Girl Rosie, and School Councillor Imogen, who also gave him a wonderful tour of the school. Luke expressed his gratitude to St. Peter’s for the warm welcome and lively discussions.

Next, Luke visited Badger Hill Primary Academy in Brotton, where he met Head Students Charlie and Rocco, as well as their Deputy Head Students and pupils from across the school. He was impressed by the school’s focus on fostering a love of reading and by the students’ enthusiasm for learning. Luke praised the positive energy and curiosity displayed by the children.

At St. Augustine’s Catholic Primary School in Coulby Newham, Luke fielded a variety of thoughtful questions from pupils about Parliament and environmental issues. The children shared innovative ideas on how to reduce litter, support those in need, cut down on fossil fuel use, and make electric cars more affordable. Luke commended their creativity and commitment to protecting the planet.

During his visit to Lingdale Primary School, Luke addressed an assembly where pupils asked insightful questions about life in Parliament and how laws are made. Head Boy Sebastian and Head Girl Blossom gave Luke an impressive tour of the school, highlighting their fabulous library and its reading challenge wall, which promotes a love of books among students.

The day concluded with a special visit to the 1st Loftus Scout Group for their Presentation Evening. Luke had the honor of presenting awards to an extraordinary group of young people who saved a man’s life in Rosecroft Woods earlier this year. He called them true heroes and celebrated their bravery and quick thinking.

Reflecting on the day, Luke expressed his gratitude to all the children, staff, and community members he met. He emphasized the importance of empowering young people and ensuring they have access to opportunities to shape their futures. “We have so many kind, clever, and determined young people in our constituency who want to make the world a better place,” he said. “It’s a privilege to work with them and support their aspirations.”
