MP challenges property management company over unexpected fee issued to residents
11th April – Ladgate Woods
Luke Myer, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has written to Gateway Property Management requesting urgent clarity over unexpected charges issued to residents at the Ladgate Woods estate in Middlesbrough.
Residents contacted Luke after receiving letters requesting an additional unexpected payment – a charge reportedly intended to cover legal fees incurred by Gateway in pursuing unpaid estate management fees from other households.
Many homeowners, who have paid their fees in full, have expressed anger and confusion over being penalised for the actions of others, raising serious concerns about transparency, fairness, and the lack of consultation or communication before the charge was applied.
Luke Myer MP said:
“People should not be expected to pay unfair or unexplained charges with no clear basis. I’ve written to Gateway for answers – including the legal and contractual justification for this charge, how residents were consulted, and what steps are being taken to make sure costs are proportionate and transparent. This has caused a lot of concerns locally and residents are right to be asking questions.”
Luke has promised to share any updates with residents as soon as a response is received.
