Today, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that it will introduce new measures to boost small businesses benefitting from defence investment.
The measures include new SME spending targets for defence, and a new support hub to provide guidance to small businesses on accessing the defence supply chain.
Luke Myer MP recently called for changes to support SMEs in the defence sector, and welcomed the announcement.
Luke Myer MP said:
“I am pleased that Government have listened, and will take action to ensure more money is spent directly with British small businesses. Teesside SMEs stand ready to support our national security.
“This is about ensuring that we invest in defence, but it is also about ensuring that we invest in our communities – our workers, engineers, and innovators who want a chance to contribute to Britain’s success.”
The announcement follows last week’s historic increase in defence spending, the largest since the Cold War, to meet threats in Europe and make defence an engine for economic growth throughout the UK.
