Working with the community to keep local spaces cared for
On 20 July, Luke Myer MP visited Brotton cemetery after residents raised concerns about it becoming overgrown. Luke saw the site first-hand and took photographs of the condition of the grounds.
On the same day, he also met with a representative of the local Friends of group to discuss how the community can work together with the council to improve upkeep. The group plays an important role in keeping the cemetery a respectful and welcoming place for families visiting their loved ones.
Luke has now reported the issue and will continue to follow up to make sure action is taken. He said:
“Cemeteries are places of real importance in our communities. Families want to know their loved ones are being remembered in surroundings that are cared for properly. I will keep pressing to ensure this site gets the attention it needs.”
