Luke Myer MP has secured repairs and full replacement plans for damaged bridge railings in Coulby Newham, after a local resident raised serious concerns about corroded and missing sections on four footbridges around Stainton Way and Newham Way.
Following Luke’s intervention with Middlesbrough’s Mayor, the Council carried out a site visit and instructed a blacksmith to manufacture repair sections to be installed within weeks, confirming there is no immediate safety risk to the public.
The Council has also confirmed that full railing replacement on all four bridges is included in this year’s bridges and structures works programme, meaning a long-term fix is now formally in the pipeline rather than being left in limbo. Luke will continue to monitor progress to make sure the promised works are delivered and that local pedestrians can feel confident using these crossings.
