Luke recently visited his old school, Freebrough Academy in Brotton, to see the work they have done to get the school to its ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rating earlier this year.
The school was rated ‘Inadequate’ in 2018, with inspectors raising concerns about safeguarding and behaviour – but is now rated among the best schools in the area.
Luke met pupils and staff, and discussed with the principal, Gemma Knox, ways to work together to support local families.
Luke said: “It was great to visit my old school Freebrough recently to see the fantastic work they’ve been doing. I’m so impressed by the commitment from Gemma & the whole team, and how hardworking all of Freebrough’s pupils are.
“I am proud to have worked in partnership with NET as Cabinet Member for Children to make a difference for children locally. I was lucky to have had a great education here growing up – and I believe every one of our young people locally deserves the best start in life.”
