Today (4 May 2026) Luke Myer MP visited Scaling Dam Sailing & Watersports Club to hear directly from volunteers about the benefits and the challenges at one of East Cleveland’s most popular outdoor community facilities.
Based at Scaling Dam reservoir in the North Yorkshire Moors, the club provides affordable access to sport and the outdoors for people of all ages. During the visit, Luke met Phil, a member of staff at the club, and discussed the range of activities its over 400 members enjoy, including sailing, windsurfing, paddlesports, powerboating and open-water swimming.
A key issue raised was uncertainty around the club’s lease with Northumbrian Water, which is due to expire in a few years’ time. This is creating barriers to securing grant funding for improvements to the clubhouse and facilities, and Luke committed to help support the club with Northumbrian Water.
