Luke Myer MP visited the construction site of Hemlington’s new Junction youth centre this week, alongside Cllr Tom Mohan and Cllr Nicky Walker.
The new purpose-built facility, off Cass House Road, is being delivered by The Junction Foundation with support from the Government’s Youth Investment Fund.
It will give young people in Hemlington a safe, modern space to meet friends, build confidence, learn new skills and access support. The Junction says the new centre aims to be open six days a week and reach more than 800 local young people each year.
The project is part of a £22 million Youth Investment Fund programme supporting 16 youth service providers to build 22 new facilities across England using modern methods of construction. The modular construction design means the project is moving rapidly and on track to open later this summer. View the previous updates from May here and from March here.
Luke Myer MP said:
“It was brilliant to visit the site with Tom and Nicky and see Hemlington’s new youth centre taking shape.
“The Junction do outstanding work with young people and families across Teesside. This new centre will give young people in Hemlington the safe, welcoming and ambitious space they deserve.
“For too long, youth services were stripped back. This investment is about putting opportunity back into our communities — giving young people somewhere to go, someone to talk to, and the chance to build their future.”
Cllr Tom Mohan and Cllr Nicky Walker, Hemlington councillors, said:
“This new youth centre will make a real difference to Hemlington, strengthening the youth services we currently have and providing new opportunities for young people in our community. We are so pleased this is happening right here in Hemlington.“
