Luke Myer MP has recognised the incredible work and tenacity shown by Councillor John McCue working with Beth Major of The Junction and Amazon, in securing a ground-breaking Multibank initiative for Redcar and Cleveland.
The new Multibank in Middlesbrough is expected to provide more than 750,000 surplus goods that would otherwise end up as landfill to support 75,000 families in the area over the coming year. This effort, originally spearheaded by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and backed by Amazon, Comic Relief, and several UK businesses, is a testament to collective action for community support. The initiative aims to ease financial strain and reduce waste by distributing clothing, shoes, toiletries, bedding, toys, and more to those in need.
Luke said, “I am thrilled to celebrate the incredible work and tenacity shown by Councillor John McCue in securing a groundbreaking multi bank initiative for Redcar and Cleveland.
“This remarkable effort is a major step towards improving the lives of our residents, across Middlesbrough South and the rural areas of East Cleveland.
“The new multi bank system will provide much needed support by offering a range of essential services, from food supplies to financial assistance and more, tailored to uplift those who need it most.
“For many households facing hardship, this initiative will bring relief, bolster community strength and ensure a more resilient future for all.
“Thank you, Councillor McCue and Beth Major of The Junction for your determination and commitment to building stronger communities. This is a big win for Redcar & Cleveland’s residents and is well received.”
