A permanent speed limit change is being secured on Stanghow Road after Luke Myer MP supported a bereaved mum’s campaign for safer roads.
Boosbeck resident Janine Keeler contacted Luke shortly after he was elected last year, to tell him about the tragic death of her son Leon in a collision on the road in 2020. She wanted the 60mph limit reduced to help prevent another family experiencing the same tragedy.
Luke took the campaign directly to Redcar & Cleveland Council. After highways officers initially said they did not recommend reducing the speed limit, Luke pressed the council further and brought senior highways officers out to meet Janine on Stanghow Road itself to make the case for change. Luke also launched a petition with local residents calling for permanent action, which gathered over a hundred signatures just before Christmas.
The campaign has succeeded, with the council agreeing to permanently change the speed limit on Stanghow Road.
