Raising awareness and funding for critical research

Today, Luke Myer MP was proud to stand with the incredible women from the Lobular Moonshot Project, a campaign dedicated to raising much-needed funding for research into invasive lobular breast cancer. The campaign held a 22-minute vigil representing the 22 women who are diagnosed with the disease every day.

The disease affects around 15% of all breast cancer cases – yet despite its prevalence, lobular breast cancer remains critically under-researched and has no specific treatment.

Luke said:
“I’ve met with women in our constituency who are personally affected by lobular breast cancer, and I’ve heard their powerful stories. This cancer affects so many people, yet it has not received the research funding or attention it deserves. That’s why I’m proud to stand with the Lobular Moonshot Project and support their efforts to secure the funding needed to understand the biology of this disease and, ultimately, find better treatments.”

Luke was one of three MPs to take part in the event, alongside Liberal Democrat MP John Milne and Green Party MP ​​Ellie Chowns. They were joined by former Conservative MP Dehenna Davison, illustrating the strong cross-party support the Lobular Moonshot Project has gained.

Luke remains committed to fighting for greater recognition and funding for this vital cause, ensuring that people affected by lobular breast cancer receive the attention and support they deserve.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting has agreed to meet Dr Susan Michaelis, one of the lead campaigners who was diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in 2013.
