Luke marked UK Parliament Week by visiting four local schools and running a constituency wide online event that brought young people together from across Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.
Today (Friday 28 November) he spoke with pupils at Chandlers Ridge Academy and St Bernadette’s Catholic Primary in Nunthorpe, Handale Primary School in Loftus, and St Thomas More RC Primary in Easterside.

He also hosted a live Zoom call from Westminster on Tuesday with around twenty local schools taking part, spanning from Loftus and Brotton, through Guisborough, to south Middlesbrough. The session gave pupils the chance to ask questions directly about how Parliament works, how laws are made, and what MPs do day-to-day.
The visits were part of UK Parliament Week, a national programme designed to help young people learn more about Parliament and how they can get involved with democracy in the UK. Schools taking part receive activity kits filled with resources, games and materials that support debates, mock elections, petitions and school council activities.
Luke Myer MP said:
“It was inspiring to see how confident and curious the pupils were. They asked thoughtful questions about democracy and public life, and their enthusiasm shows why these events matter. Opening up Parliament to young people helps them see that their voices count and that they have a real stake in the country’s future.”
With thousands of events taking place across the country, UK Parliament Week continues to grow each year. Luke’s sessions aimed to give local pupils a closer look at the decisions that shape their communities and the ways they can get involved as active citizens.
