Hummersea Primary School in Loftus is set to receive £140,000 for repairs and improvements as part of new investment from the Labour Government in school buildings.

The funding comes from the Department for Education and is being allocated by Redcar and Cleveland Council to support schools with building condition, safety, compliance and energy efficiency works.

It comes alongside further investment in school buildings across East Cleveland, including new Condition Improvement Fund support for St Peter’s in Brotton, repair grants for Belmont and Highcliffe in Guisborough, and long-awaited School Rebuilding Programme funding for a new building at Skelton Primary.

It also follows Labour government funding for free breakfast clubs at Skelton Primary, Lingdale Primary, Lockwood Primary in Boosbeck, Chaloner Primary in Guisborough, Handale Primary in Loftus, and Whitecliffe Primary Academy in Carlin How, with more on the way. In total, 1,578 children across the constituency will have access to the clubs this year.

Luke Myer MP welcomed the news as another step towards improving school buildings in East Cleveland.
