Two Guisborough primary schools are set to benefit from major repair funding as part of new investment from the Labour Government.

Belmont Primary School will receive £105,000 and Highcliffe Primary School will receive £140,000 through funding from the Department for Education, allocated by Redcar and Cleveland Council.

The money will support work to keep school buildings safe, warm and in good condition, including repairs, compliance works, energy efficiency and health and safety improvements.

It comes alongside further investment in school buildings across East Cleveland, including new Condition Improvement Fund support for St Peter’s in Brotton, an £140k grant for Hummersea Primary in Loftus, and long-awaited School Rebuilding Programme funding for a new building at Skelton Primary.

Luke Myer MP has welcomed the investment and paid tribute to Cllr Bill Suthers, Guisborough councillor and Cabinet Member for Children and Families at the council, for his work with local schools.

“This is really welcome news for Belmont and Highcliffe.

“Parents, pupils and staff deserve school buildings that are safe, well maintained and fit for learning. This funding will make a practical difference to two important Guisborough schools.

“Education is fundamental, and I’ve been working closely with Bill on children’s services and school provision across the area. It is good to see that partnership between our Labour team bearing fruit – councillors, MP and Government working together to deliver real investment after yeaes of austerity.

“This is about backing children, backing staff and making sure local schools get the support they need.”
