£20 million regeneration fund secured for Park End

25 September 2025

Park End will receive a landmark £20 million regeneration fund, confirmed today by the Labour Government through its Pride in Place programme. The guaranteed ten year package will invest £2 million each year in community priorities, with local residents shaping how every penny is spent.

A new community board will be created by local MP Luke Myer and Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke to oversee the fund. It will be chaired by an independent community figure and include residents, local groups and an Independent ward councillor, ensuring decisions are nonpartisan and rooted in Park End’s needs. Surveys and public events will run over the coming months so people can set the priorities.

Luke Myer, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, said:

“This is huge news for Park End and I’m glad the government has listened to my calls for more investment in our region. This £20 million regeneration fund will make a massive difference to people’s lives.

I am determined this will be shaped by the community and used to deliver the improvements people most want to see. I will work with people of all views to make sure this fund is managed properly and benefits Park End for the long term.”

UK Government Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Steve Reed, said:

“£20 million pounds is coming to Park End thanks to your MP, Luke Myer. That’s a massive amount of money and it’s going to make a huge difference for the area. But even better, it’s local people who will decide how every single penny of it gets spent. That’s the difference a Labour MP makes.”

“When people step out of their front doors, they know their communities are struggling. They see shuttered pubs, fading high streets and their local areas in decline. Yes, communities have been stretched – but they haven’t given up. They’re working hard to make things better, and we’re backing them. The Government is putting power into their hands so local people decide how best to restore pride in their neighbourhoods, not us in Westminster. That’s what real patriotism looks like: building up our communities and choosing renewal over division.”

Middlesbrough Mayor Chris Cooke said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled about the funding coming to Park End, this will make a big difference to residents’ lives, and I’m particularly excited with how involved the local community will be in the decisions around where this funding goes to. We await further details, but we are starting to see real investment in our town again.”

Cllr Mick Saunders, Independent councillor for Park End, said:

“This is absolutely brilliant news for Park End. We welcome the decision from Government to better our estates in Park End. Long overdue that East Middlesbrough gets this treatment from Government.”

Today’s announcement forms part of the Government’s Pride in Place strategy, which is designed to put power in the hands of communities and invest for the long term. Luke has consistently argued for community-led regeneration and has pressed ministers to extend funding to East Middlesbrough. He thanked Secretary of State Steve Reed and former minister Alex Norris for engaging with his case and helping deliver this outcome.

Further details on the community board, the first resident survey and how to get involved will be published shortly.
