Luke Myer MP helped a Marton resident, Michele, secure a long-overdue refund of voluntary National Insurance contributions after more than a year of unsuccessful attempts to get the Pension Service and HMRC to resolve the issue. Following a meeting at Luke’s Nunthorpe surgery, he wrote directly to HMRC asking for the remaining £504.90 from the 2020/21 tax year to be repaid.
HMRC reviewed the case as a formal complaint and confirmed that a refund would be issued in full. Michele later received her cheque and contacted Luke to express her thanks, noting how relieved she was that the matter had finally been resolved after months of frustration.
Michele said:
“I am very pleased with the way Luke handled my issue regarding a refund of voluntary pension contributions. Luke’s surgery at the Methodist Church in Nunthorpe was well organised and fortunately there was an expert caseworker on hand to deal with my particular problem.”
