Luke joined three commemorative events to mark the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
First, he visited Stewart Park for an event organised by Marton West and Nunthorpe councillors, where an installation of 80 ‘Tommy’ silhouettes were placed outside the Captain Cook Museum.
This morning (6 June 2024) he marched the official Redcar & Cleveland ceremony at Redcar, and this evening joined a poignant D-Day beacon-lighting ceremony at Middlesbrough Cenotaph.
Luke said: “We are only able to have the privilege of standing for election because of the sacrifices made by our soldiers in defence of democracy and freedom.
“Today, on the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we honour the brave servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of that liberty.
“At the going-down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.”
