Visiting PD Ports on Teesside today, Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves announced Labour’s landmark plan to commit £1.8 billion over five years on upgrading the UK’s port infrastructure as part of our flagship Green Prosperity Plan.
This investment will lead to the most significant upgrade of Britain’s ports in a generation, crowding in billions more from the private sector into the UK’s energy industry.
Keir said: “A Labour government will reindustrialise Britain, from the biggest investment in our ports in a generation to a British jobs bonus to crowd billions of investment into our industrial heartlands and coastal communities.”
Luke said: “After 14 years of Tory government, our economy needs change. Labour will get Britain building again with thousands of well-paid jobs in green industries, including in our ports.
“I am delighted that Labour have announced our national plan to invest £1.8bn in our ports – the most significant upgrade in our ports in a generation. I am delighted, too, that it was announced here in Middlesbrough at PD Ports. Working with employers like Frans and his team, we will get our economy moving and bring good, well-paid jobs back to our industrial heartlands.”
