Temperance Square and Training Hub Officially Open

Luke Myer MP joined residents, community leaders, and local representatives in Loftus for the grand opening of the newly refurbished United Reformed Church and the brand new Temperance Square Skills and Training Hub. The celebrations brought together hundreds of people for a Fun Day organised by Loftus Town Council, with fairground rides, trampolines, and family activities. The Lord Lieutenant, Mrs Johanna Ropner, the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland, Cllr Ian Hart, and the Mayor of Loftus, Cllr Michael Hodgson, were also in attendance to mark this important moment for the town.

The United Reformed Church, which dates back to 1906, had stood empty for two decades. Now, following major investment from Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council and the Tees Valley Combined Authority, it has been transformed into a vibrant creative hub with artist studios, a gallery, and workshop spaces. Local artists will use the building to showcase their work and engage closely with the community.

Temperance Square has also opened its doors as a purpose-built facility designed to boost skills, training, and employment opportunities across Loftus and East Cleveland. With space for courses, workshops, and partnerships with organisations such as Jobcentre Plus and Beyond Housing, the hub will help people access new qualifications, grow businesses, and improve job prospects.
