Coulby Newham Army Reservists visit Downing Street and Parliament

Today (Saturday 9 August) Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland MP Luke Myer hosted members of the 162 Regiment’s 282 Movement Control Squadron RLC from Coulby Newham for a special visit to Downing Street and a tour of Parliament.

The squadron is a reserve unit that provides logistics and support to the British Army, ensuring personnel and equipment are deployed safely to where they are needed. Reservists come from a wide range of backgrounds and balance their civilian careers with military service, playing a vital role in national security.

Luke Myer MP said:

Parliament isn’t sitting at the moment, but I was pleased to give this fantastic group the opportunity to see both Downing Street and Parliament. The 282 Squadron’s work is essential in keeping the Army moving, and it was a privilege to meet them and hear more about the contribution they make to our country.”

WO2 Richard Smith, Squadron Sergeant Major for 282 Squadron, described the experience as a “wonderful morning” and a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for his group.

Anyone interested in joining the local reserves can contact the squadron at 162RLC-Recruitment-0GroupMailbox@mod.gov.uk or visit jobs.army.mod.uk/army-reserve.
