Today (13 February 2026) Luke Myer MP met with Hutton Liberal Democrat councillor Jemma Joy to push for safer roads in Redcar & Cleveland.

The meeting focused on pressing road safety concerns, with a particular focus on the dangerous stretches at Newton-under-Roseberry and the A171.

They hope to see more police speed enforcement, increased traffic calming measures, and collaboration with neighbouring authorities like North Yorkshire to share good practices.

Luke has long been committed to improving local roads. Recently, he welcomed the Labour Government’s new Road Safety Strategy, which aims to reduce road deaths and serious injuries by 65% by 2035. The strategy also highlights the disproportionate risks faced by children and young people in poorer areas, something that he has raised in Parliament.

In his recent intervention in Parliament on road safety, Luke reflected on the tragic case of his constituent, Leon Keeler, who was killed in a road collision near Lingdale in 2020. Working closely with Leon’s mother, Janine, Luke successfully campaigned to reduce the speed limit on Stanghow Road in 2024, but he emphasised that more action is needed at a national level.
