#HeartUnions week, 9 – 15 February 2026, is a national campaign run by the TUC each year to inform people about why unions are vital for everyone at work, and encourage people who aren’t yet in a union to join.

More than 5.5 million people in the UK are in a union – helping each other to get a better deal from their employers. Every single day, trade unions fight for better pay, safer conditions and fair treatment for their members. From equal pay, to the weekend, to the minimum wage, trade unions have fought and secured the rights we enjoy today.

Being in a union means someone always has your back. Whatever your job, there’s a union out there for you. The TUC has a simple tool available to help you find the right one for you.

You have a legal right to join a union – it’s illegal for an employer to disadvantage you because you are a member. Generally unions can’t help people with a problem that happened before they joined, so don’t wait for something to go wrong – join a trade union today for a better deal in your workplace.
