The recent experience with the Bakehouse Square regeneration project in Guisborough has left many residents feeling frustrated and disappointed. With future projects in the pipeline for Chaloner Street and Westgate, it is essential that lessons are learnt and future regeneration is high-quality and well-executed. Please sign this petition and together, we can ensure that the future of our town reflects the pride we have in Guisborough.
Our Petition:
To: Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council
“We, the undersigned, call upon the council to ensure that the regeneration of Chaloner Street and Westgate is carried out to the highest possible standards by contractors who have a proven track record of excellence in public works. It is essential that:
- The appointed contractor demonstrates a strong commitment to quality, with a clear understanding of the community’s expectations.
- The project is completed, as far as is possible, within the agreed timeframe and budget, with minimal disruption to residents and businesses.
- Ongoing communication with the community is prioritised throughout the project, ensuring transparency and responsiveness to any concerns that may arise.
The residents of Guisborough deserve a project that reflects our town’s heritage and future aspirations. We believe that with careful planning, the right contractor, and a shared commitment to quality, Chaloner Street and Westgate can become a shining example of successful urban regeneration – but without this, it could damage our town.
We urge the council to take this petition into account when finalising the plans and selecting the contractor for these important projects.”
