Landline restored for Guisborough pensioner after sudden cut-off

This week, Luke Myer MP secured the restoration of a Guisborough woman’s landline after it unexpectedly stopped working, leaving her without a vital means of communication.

The constituent believed her service had been disconnected in error after attempting to update her ex-directory status — and despite repeated attempts, was unable to get clarity from Virgin Media. Following Luke’s intervention, Virgin escalated the case to their executive team, confirmed the fault, and arranged for an engineer to visit and restore the line. Her landline is now fully operational again.

For many older residents, especially those living alone, access to a working phone line is essential. Even issues that seem small can cause stress, isolation, and real worry when they leave people cut off from family, services, and support. Luke continues to press telecoms providers to respond swiftly when customers — particularly older or vulnerable people — are left without essential connectivity.
