On the evening of Friday, 24th October, Luke and residents from Skelton Green and Boosbeck met with Northern Powergrid at Skelton Green Methodist Church Hall to discuss the future of the area’s power infrastructure. The villages have struggled with outdated, dangerous overhead cables for many years.
The meeting followed months of consultation and advocacy by local resident Eileen Goodenough, as well as by Luke and the local ward councillors Ursula Earl and John McCue.
Thanks to these efforts, Northern Powergrid has agreed to undertake a £600,000 programme of works starting next year. This investment will see the undergrounding of 95% of the area’s overhead power lines, with upgrades to the remaining lines.
Luke Myer MP said:
“This is a great win for our community. Thank you to Northern Powergrid for listening to me, ward councillors, and most importantly the needs of Skelton Green and Boosbeck residents. This £600k investment will help future-proof our villages, enhance safety, and ensure a more reliable power supply for residents.”
The meeting was attended by Northern Powergrid representatives Craig Burt, Ciaron Dalton, and Dean Naylor, who answered questions from the community and provided details on the proposed works.
Luke continues to fight for vital infrastructure improvements for East Cleveland, set out in his East Cleveland Growth Plan.
