Luke Myer MP has praised the work of addiction charity Recovery Connections after joining local partners to celebrate the charity’s growing impact across Redcar & Cleveland, including its expanding work in Brotton.

The event brought together people with lived experience, community leaders and local organisations to recognise the progress being made in supporting people recovering from addiction. Luke was joined on a panel by RCVDA Chief Executive Peter Neal and Brotton Ward Councillors Barry Hunt and Graham Cutler.

Luke paid tribute to the work taking place in Middlesbrough, which was the first place in the country to take part in the ‘inclusive recovery cities’ programme, as well as the growing work taking place in East Cleveland. Last year, Luke visited Recovery Connections’ new Royce House facility in Brotton, set up with the support of Redcar & Cleveland’s Labour Council. He also commended Recovery Connections in Parliament, where he highlighted the importance of local addiction recovery services and commended the work taking place in Brotton.

Recovery Connections now runs three weekly sessions from the village hall, helping people access support closer to home, reduce isolation and build lasting recovery within their own community.
