Luke has become a member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Nuclear Energy, following its Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week.

The group provides a platform for parliamentarians to engage with industry leaders and government officials on the challenges and opportunities surrounding nuclear energy. As we work towards the UK’s ambitious net zero target by 2050, nuclear energy is poised to be a cornerstone of our strategy, offering clean, reliable, and affordable power – and crucially, jobs for areas like Teesside.

Luke’s involvement in this APPG aligns closely with his previous work in net zero policy in the North East, where he promoted green jobs for our region.

Luke said:

“I’m delighted to be a member of this APPG – another step in my commitment to helping bring jobs and investment in clean industry to our area.

“I’m looking forward to further engaging with industry experts and fellow parliamentarians to drive forward the policies that will secure our energy needs for generations to come.

“During this meeting, we discussed the strategic importance of nuclear energy in reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and strengthening the UK’s energy security.

“Reaching 24GW of nuclear capacity could cut 75 million tonnes of emissions annually and create over 200,000 jobs. Thismake sense both economically and environmentally – if we seize this economic opportunity, we could bring significant benefits to communities across our area.”

Luke’s membership of the APPG is a step towards ensuring that the UK leads in providing clean, secure, and affordable energy, with nuclear power playing a pivotal role in that transition.
