Luke Myer MP has spent time with A-level Politics students at both King’s Academy in Coulby Newham and Nunthorpe Academy in the run-up to UK Parliament Week, kicking off a busy period of school visits across the constituency.
At King’s Academy, Luke spoke in a Sixth Form assembly about the role of an MP, the priorities he’s working on for south Middlesbrough, and why young people’s voices are so important in shaping the future of the area. He then joined A-Level Politics students for a wide-ranging discussion, answering questions on everything from local opportunities to how decisions made in Westminster affect life on Teesside.
Staff at the school thanked him for taking the time, praising the honest conversation and the way he engaged with students’ ideas and concerns.

A few days earlier, Luke met Politics students at Nunthorpe Academy for an in-depth conversation about Parliament, democracy, and public service. The school said they appreciated him spending time with learners and supporting their studies. Luke said he was struck by the confidence, curiosity, and fairness shown by students at both schools.
He added that these early November visits were the start of a wider programme of activity for UK Parliament Week, during which he’ll be meeting more schools and colleges across the constituency. Further updates from his Parliament Week visits will follow over the next few days.
UK Parliament Week is a nationwide initiative helping young people learn about democracy and how decisions are made; you can find out more here.
