Luke Myer MP visited a lively community arts event in Guisborough on Sunday, hosted by Guisborough Arts in partnership with The Nest. The afternoon marked the launch of a new project called Restorying and brought together local organisations, artists, and residents at the Methodist Church Hall on Westgate.
Luke spent time speaking with volunteers from several groups taking part. This included The Nest, who shared details of their next community gathering on Monday 24 November at the Sleights Court Community Hub. The upcoming session invites local people to help shape new community led environmental projects, with hot drinks and home made biscuits on offer. Luke welcomed their work building an inclusive, environmentally minded network in the town.

He also met with Surfers Against Sewage, a group he has worked with before. They discussed ongoing concerns over storm overflow discharges affecting the Skelton Beck area, and Luke agreed to arrange a site visit soon to follow up on local reports. They also spoke about recent positive news from the Labour Govermment on restricting plastic based wet wipes, which campaigners believe will reduce pollution along local rivers and the coast.
Luke then spoke with volunteers from The Guisborough Bridge Association. The charity, originally set up by Churches Together in Guisborough, runs vital community projects including the town’s foodbank and soup kitchen. Luke thanked them for their ongoing work supporting residents who are struggling, especially as winter approaches.
The event featured an immersive art installation, an exhibition of community banners, free cakes and drinks, and a series of stalls from local groups. Luke said it was encouraging to see so many organisations working together and contributing to the strong sense of community that defines Guisborough.
