Luke Myer MP backs Binding Solutions’ green breakthrough

New iron ore pellet technology promises net zero future for UK steel

18th July 2025

On a visit to their Teesside facility, Luke Myer MP praised local business Binding Solutions, which is leading pioneering research that could transform steel production across the UK.

During the visit, Binding Solutions shared how their development of cold agglomerated pellets from iron ore (CAP) is creating a new way to decarbonise steel making. This technology has already been successfully trialled at Scunthorpe Blast Furnace, marking a major step forward for cleaner, greener steel.

The team also discussed their new memorandum of understanding with HES Bulk Terminal to build a state of the art iron ore cold pelletising plant in Rotterdam. This move will strengthen industrial links between Teesside and Rotterdam, with potential to expand production between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Luke said:
“I was hugely impressed by Binding Solutions’ groundbreaking work to support a future-facing steel industry. This is exactly the kind of innovation we need to protect and grow high quality steel jobs here in Teesside and across Britain. Their partnership with Scunthorpe recently has helped to safeguard British Steel, and their partnership with Rotterdam shows that Teesside is at the forefront of international green industry.

Jon Stewart CEO said:
“We were delighted to welcome Luke Myer to our Teesside Technology Centre today. It was an exciting opportunity to show the work we are doing to develop our Cold Agglomerated Pellet technology and explain how Binding Solutions can enable the production of green steel at scale while supporting the UK steel industry. We would like to thank Luke for taking the time to visit our operation, and look forward to working with him and the Government to deliver the forthcoming UK Steel Strategy to create a more sustainable future for the industry.”
