A landmark reform to military housing has been unveiled this week, with a new Charter setting clear standards and rights for families living in the 36,000 homes that were brought back into public ownership last year. Backed by £1.5 billion in investment, the plan aims to tackle long-standing issues with maintenance, oversight and support.

Luke Myer, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, met with Veterans Minister Al Carns in Parliament to discuss the new Homes Fit For Heroes programme, which will set national standards for military housing for the first time.

The announcement for a new Consumer Charter for service families, named housing officers, and stricter repair timeframes – aimed at ending years of neglect across the military estate.

Luke Myer MP said:
“This is a long-overdue shift after years of substandard housing for our Armed Forces families. They deserve secure, decent homes that match their service and sacrifice. I am proud to support this plan to bring thousands of homes back into public hands, invest in repairs, and guarantee the rights of those who serve.”
