Luke Myer, Member of Parliament for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has been elected Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Steel and Metals-Related Industries. The appointment was supported by MPs from Labour, Conservatives, and Reform UK, reflecting strong cross-party confidence in his commitment to the future of the UK steel and metals industries.
As Chair, Luke will work with the industry and across Parliament to champion British steelmaking, advocate for skilled jobs, and push for a secure long-term plan for this vital foundation of the national economy. His focus comes at a critical moment for the industry, with the prospect of EU tariffs and major decisions ahead that will shape the future of steel communities across the country.
Luke said:
“I’m grateful to colleagues from across the political spectrum for backing me. British steelmaking is a cornerstone of our economy and our national security. I’ll work with anyone to fight for jobs, strengthen our industrial base, and secure the long-term future our steel communities deserve.”
Luke emphasised that ensuring steelworkers, their families, and the communities built around steel have a strong voice in Westminster will be at the heart of his work in the months ahead.
