Luke helps Brotton resident break the mould

Unsafe housing issue resolved for Brotton tenant

On 14 November, Luke Myer MP helped a man in Brotton secure a move away from a privately rented property that had fallen into severe disrepair, after months of living with damp, mould, cracked walls and other hazards. Luke’s intervention with the letting agent and landlord prompted fresh inspections and ultimately led the tenant to be released from the unsafe home and supported into a new property.

The constituent, who had struggled for years to get basic repairs carried out, told Luke that his advocacy made the landlord “realise they cannot get away with it.” Luke continues to fight for safer housing standards across East Cleveland, pushing agencies and landlords to take responsibility when properties fall below acceptable living conditions.

Anyone facing housing problems or unsafe conditions can contact Luke by emailing luke.myer.mp@parliament.uk, visit the Guisborough constituency office, or book a face-to-face surgery appointment at lukemyer.uk/surgeries.
