Luke Myer, Labour MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has praised the award-winning regeneration of Duncan Place Library and Community Hub in Loftus following a visit earlier this week.
The building, which recently won a RIBA Yorkshire Award 2025, was designed by EDable Architecture in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council. It brings together a youth and community centre, a family hub, and a public library in a single, fully refurbished Victorian site.
Luke was given a tour of the site by the architects and local authority team behind the project. Duncan Place is now a welcoming civic space that connects Loftus High Street with the local park, showing how thoughtful regeneration can breathe new life into a historic building while delivering vital services for families and young people.
Luke said:
‘This is exactly the kind of forward-looking regeneration our communities need. Duncan Place is beautiful, functional, and rooted in local history. A brilliant example of what happens when good design meets ambition. I am proud to see this kind of project in Loftus, serving families and young people across the area.’
In particular, Luke was delighted to visit the Family Hub on the site, which he helped to deliver in 2023 as Cabinet Member for Children on the local authority. He paid tribute to the Service Manager Nicola Hall and her staff for their work to support local families.
