Backing innovation and non-pipeline CO₂ transport as part of Teesside’s green industrial future
4 August 2025
Luke Myer MP visited Navigator Terminals at Seal Sands to hear about their groundbreaking work in carbon capture and storage (CCUS) and how Teesside is leading the way in clean industrial innovation.
Navigator is spearheading a partnership with Enfinium to transport captured CO₂ by rail from Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire to Teesside, where it can be permanently stored through the new Teesside CCUS cluster. This non-pipeline transport solution is a key step towards making carbon capture accessible to more sites across the UK, not just those located near major pipelines.
As Co-Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage, Luke is helping to shape the national conversation around CCUS and champion the opportunities it brings for regions like Teesside. With Government backing now secured for the Teesside cluster, thousands of jobs are starting to take shape across our region. From pipe fabrication in Hartlepool to chemical storage in Stockton and major construction at Redcar, CCUS investment is already helping existing industries grow and creating new high-quality opportunities for local people.
Luke said:
“It was great to visit Navigator Terminals and see first-hand how Teesside is driving the next chapter of Britain’s industrial story. We powered the past, now we’re ready to power the future too. I’ll keep fighting for jobs, investment, and opportunities for Teesside.”
