Supporting a proud East Cleveland foundry with global reach
On 4 August, Luke Myer MP visited Peel Jones Copper Ltd in Carlin How to meet Managing Director Andrew Young and the team. The company has been producing high conductivity copper castings for more than 50 years, supporting the iron and steel industry both here in the UK and across the world.
During the visit, Luke heard how the business is growing its capacity through new partnerships with Teesside University, using advanced design and manufacturing processes. The firm is proud of its East Cleveland roots and is already exporting globally. Peel Jones Copper will also benefit directly from the Labour Government’s new trade deal with India, helping to open up further opportunities.
Luke has previously raised the company’s concerns with Ministers about the lack of transition support for English suppliers following major changes in the steel sector. He is continuing to press for backing that would help them expand into new products and markets, including those linked to electric arc furnaces.
Speaking after the visit, Luke said:
“Peel Jones Copper is a great example of the skilled, world-class engineering we have here in East Cleveland. They are proud of their history and ambitious for the future. I will keep doing everything I can to make sure firms like this get the support they need to grow and create good local jobs.”
