Luke visits SENSES for Christmas celebration

Today (Friday 19 December 2025), Luke Myer MP visited SENSES Wellbeing Centre CIC in Skelton to pop in on the centre’s end of year Christmas celebration, marking another milestone for a community hub that has become a lifeline for families, older residents and people with additional needs across East Cleveland.

The Christmas event was supported by the MFC Foundation, which sponsors activities at SENSES on the third Friday of every month. Karen Winspear, who founded and runs the centre, paid tribute to Matty, Gordon and the wider MFC Foundation team for their continued backing.

SENSES, established in 2019, provides inclusive fitness, wellbeing and social activities for people of all ages and abilities. From dementia-friendly sessions and sensory play to affordable fitness, nutrition support and social events, the centre has been built through local fundraising, volunteer effort and community goodwill, responding directly to unmet need in East Cleveland.

Luke has been a long-standing supporter of SENSES and of Karen’s leadership. Earlier this year, he nominated Karen for national recognition at a St George’s Day celebration at No.10 Downing Street, recognising her work as a community champion and the impact SENSES continues to have locally.

Luke Myer MP said:

“SENSES is the best of our community – people coming together to lift one another up. Karen and her team have created something really special here in Skelton, and the support from the MFC Foundation for events like today’s shows what a difference it can make when local organisations back local people. It was a pleasure to drop in today and wish everyone at SENSES a very happy Christmas!”
