Luke volunteers to support Hemlington Lake parkrun

12 October 2026

44 young runners enjoyed a sunny morning at Hemlington Lake Junior Parkrun, with local MP Luke Myer joining the volunteers to help celebrate their achievements!

The free weekly event encourages children to get active, make friends and enjoy the outdoors. Four youngsters took part for the first time, while others celebrated new personal bests. Luke handed out milestone awards to children who had completed 10 or more runs, and praised the dedicated volunteers who give up their time to make it happen every Sunday.

Luke Myer MP said:

“It was brilliant to see so many young people out enjoying themselves. Parkrun is fantastic for physical and mental health, and it’s all thanks to the volunteers who make it possible. Well done to all involved!”

Event volunteer Vicky said:

“Congratulations to all those who obtained a milestone, which were handed out by one of our volunteers Luke Myer, our local MP! Big thanks to all our volunteers who kindly helped out today, all of whom we wouldn’t be able to put on this fab event.”

The Hemlington Lake team is always looking for more volunteers, with training provided. Anyone interested in helping can find out more at parkrun.com/volunteer.
